How to ensure sound measurement?

Soundproofing is the term utilized by which a room, space or an area is made less open to sound. The place in insulated against sound and is generally utilized to lessen undesired noise. The extent up to which a space or a room is soundproofed depends on how much sound is able to pass through the sound deadening curtains utilized.

As sound is measured in decibels, when you measure decibels, you measure the effectiveness of the soundproofing products. Decibels are not basically units of sound, but a way to express the ratio between the two levels of sound. Our ears can perceive a huge level of sound up to 120 decibels.

Enhancing the power of a sound doesn't enhance our perception about the sound in the same way. If sound has double the number of decibels of a second sound, we won't hear the first sound as it is twice as loud. As a matter of fact, we would hardly notice the difference. We would only generally perceive that a sound has become twice as loud when the number of decibels had enhanced by 10. This will make sound measurement much simpler.

Long term exposure to higher levels of sound may cause hearing loss. Even short term exposure to high levels of noise like that of a stamping press may cause hearing loss. The amount of risk of hearing loss depends on the number of decibels perceived and the duration of the exposure.

The efficiency of sound deadening curtains is measured by determining how many decibels of noise have been reduced in a specific area. In some areas, it is important that all external noise should be excluded, like a hearing test lab in a hospital where hearing tests are conducted. Soundproofing is utilized to lessen the level of noise to an acceptable level, where hearing is not damaged and noise is not considered as a nuisance.
